Maple Ridge is reached most easily north through Mission and then west along the Lougheed Highway on the north side of the river, which makes it a longer run than the distance on a map suggests. About forty minutes in normal conditions. The alternative, west on Highway 1 and north over the Golden Ears Bridge, is usually no faster from where we are.
The events here lean outdoors. With Golden Ears Provincial Park close by and a lot of properties backing onto green space, a good share of what gets catered in Maple Ridge happens in a yard, on a deck or under a tent. That is well matched to how this food works. Dips, salads, bread and grilled mains sit happily at room temperature, so an afternoon celebration does not need a warming setup or someone assigned to watch the trays.
It is also a city where people host at home rather than book venues, which is the situation we were built for. Our family spent years laying out Sunday lunches for however many relatives turned up. A drop off spread is the same idea, just without the host losing their whole day to the kitchen.

What this distance changes in practice
- The route is a highway then a two-lane road, so we allow more slack than a straight Highway 1 run.
- Most Maple Ridge events are outdoors, so the spread is planned to hold at room temperature.
- Pickup is not really practical at this distance. Delivery is the sensible option.
- A little more lead time than a Fraser Valley booking, mainly so the timing can be planned properly.
- Whonnock and the eastern edge are actually a shorter run for us than the western side of the city.
