What Is Muhammara? Our Roasted Red Pepper Dip

Muhammara is a roasted red pepper dip from the Middle East, made with red peppers, bread crumbs, and pomegranate molasses. It is savoury and tangy with a gentle sweetness, and it is one of the dips we are proudest of at Salma’s Kitchen.

What muhammara tastes like

If hummus is the familiar one, muhammara is the dip that surprises people. The roasted peppers give it depth, the pomegranate molasses brings a bright, tangy sweetness, and the whole thing lands somewhere rich and a little smoky. Once people try it, they tend to ask for it by name.

How to serve muhammara

Muhammara is wonderfully versatile. A few of our favourite ways to enjoy it:

  • Scooped up with warm bread as a dip.
  • Spread inside a wrap or alongside a grilled kabab or shish tawook.
  • Served as part of a spread with hummus and baba ganoush.

Take it home by the half kilo

We make our muhammara from scratch and pack it by the half kilo, so you can keep it in the fridge and reach for it all week. It is one of three dips we offer, alongside classic hummus and smoky baba ganoush.
